REGGAE REGULAR WAS FORMED IN SOUTH LONDON 1977. THE BAND INITIALLY WAS UNNAMED FOR A WHILE,BUT INFLUENCED AND INSPIRED BY THE RHYTHYMS WHICH WERE EMINATING FROM JAMACIA AT THE TIME, THEY BEGAN REHEARSING.OVER THE NEXT FEW MONTHS THEY WOULD BACK OTHER CURRENT ARTIST ON LIVE SHOWS SUCH AS THE MORWELLS AND 15,16,17, (A WELL KNOWN BRITISH GIRL GROUP AT THE TIME) AS THE BAND DEVELOPED ITS DISTINCTIVE BRITISH REGGAE SOUND THE TASK OF SERIOUS SONG WRITING BEGAN. IN 1977 AT A WELL KNOWN LOCAL COMMUNITY VENUE IN BATTERSEA SOUTH LONDON,THE NOW NAMED “REGGAE REGULAR” PLAYED THE FIRST OF MANY GIGS. PEOPLE TOOK TO THE BANDS SONGS WHICH WERE UNIQUE HEART FELT PRECISE ARRANGEMENTS INCORPERATING DEPTH AND ORIGINALITY PENNED BY GEORGE CLARKE. IN 1978 THEY RECORDED TWO SEMINAL REGGAE SONGS,THE CLASSIC “BLACK STAR LINER” AND “WHERE IS JAH?”. THE BAND WERE INTRODUCED TO A&R MAN CHRIS CRACKNELL AT THE NEWLY FORMED GREENSLEEVES RECORDS IN WEST LONDON. IMPRESSED WITH WHAT HE HEARD, REGGAE REGULAR WAS SIGNED TO THE COMPANY AND THEREAFTER ‘WHERE IS JAH?' WAS TO BECOME GREENSLEEVES FIRST RELEASE UNDER CATALOUGE NUMBER ‘GRED 001'. THE SINGLE ATTAINED THE POSITION OF NUMBER FOUR IN THE REGGAE CHARTS IN FEBUARY OF 78. THE FOLLOW UP SINGLE “BLACK STAR LINER” CHARTED EVEN HIGHER AT NUMBER ONE! REGGAE IN LATE SEVENTIES BRITAIN WAS BY THIS TIME WAS BEING NOTICED BY THE MAJOR RECORD COMPANIES AS WAS EVIDENT BY THE HIGH PROFILE SIGNING OF BRITISH BANDS LIKE ASWAD AND STEEL PULSE. IN 1979 THE BAND SECURED A RECORDING DEAL WITH CBS RECORDS. WITH THEIR SIGHTS SET ON A COMMECIAL BREAKTHROUGH THEY BEGAN RECORDING THIER DEBUT ALBUM “VICTIM” UNDER CBS'S RE-WORKED NAME “THE REGULARS”. THE ALBUM CONSISTED OF A COLLECTIION OF UNIQUE REGGAE SONGS CONFRONTING SUBJECTS SUCH AS SOCIAL INJUSTICE IN BRITAIN TO CELEBRATING LOVE AND PERSONAL LIFE EXPERIENCES.THEY TOOK REGGAE MUSIC TO A NEW LEVEL OF EXCELLENCE,AND TO A WIDER AUDIENCE.SOON THE BAND WAS ON THE ROAD AND TOURING WITH BIG NAME MAIN STREAM POP ARTISTS OF THE LATE SEVENTIES EARLEY EIGHTIES SOUXSIE AND THE BANCHES, PETER TOSH AND THE JAM. AFTER EXTENSIVELY TOURING EUROPE , PERSONAL FRICTION AND A DIFFERENCE IN MUSICAL DIRECTION WAS TO MARK THE END OF SOME BAND MEMBERS EVER WORKING TOGETHER AGAIN.THE BAND SPLIT AND THEY ALL WENT TO PERSUE OTHER MUSICAL VENTURES. IN 1982 REGGAE REGULARS REFORMED, THE BAND SPENT THE FIRST YEAR TOURING AND WORKING WITH GREENSLEEVES RECORD'S ARTISTS BACKING AND RECORDING ARTISTS INCLUDING FRANKIE PAUL,PATO BANTON, BARRINGTON LEVI AND WAILING SOULS TO NAME A FEW. IN 1984 THE BAND DELIVERED GREENSLEEVES' FIRST NATIONAL CHART HIT AFTER COLLABORATING WITH TIPPA IRE,RESULTING IN THE CATCHY SWING BEAT INSPIRED SONG “HELLO DARLING”. THEY WENT ON TO RECORD THE ALBUM “GHETTO ROCK”AND ALSO RELEASED SINGLES ‘JAH LOVE'AND ‘HOUSE PARTY' FEATURING POPULAR RAPPERS OF THE TIME,CLINT EASTWOOD & GENERAL SAINT.THE BAND DID NO MORE RECORDING AS REGGAE REGULAR AFTER THIS. TODAY REGGAE REGULARS/THE REGULARS ARE RE-FORMED AND RECORDING AGAIN, WITH UNRECORDED SONGS AND RE-WORKED EARLY MATERIAL AND LIVE SHOWS PLANNED FOR 2011/12.
